Elf Shoe Treat For Santa

I wanted to find something fun and not to complicated for the kids to make Santa on Christmas Eve.

I also wanted to find something that fit the Christmas spirit.  This is a fun treat sure to delight Santa and his Elves!

First I made rice crispy treats.  I'm sure there is probably an elf shoe cookie cutter out there, but rather than hunt one down I just cut it out using a paring knife.

Next I warmed up my chocolate.  I used the white chocolate first.  Heat 30 seconds at a time in the microwave.  Stir and if not melted yet put in for another 30 seconds.  I spread the chocolate on using a butter knife.  If I were to have kids doing this I think frosting would be just as good it might be fun to have them pipe it on with a frosting tip.  All ideas will turn out great I'm sure.

Then I moved to the red chocolate.  I spread all the chocolate on with a butter knife.  I dipped the knife in the chocolate and just took the knife in a line across the white chocolate to make the lines in the socks.  Don't put too much chocolate on the knife at this point or your lines will be huge.

Last step is the green.  While the chocolate was still wet I cut mini marshmallows in half and put them on the points.

Simple and fun for the whole family!

Merry Christmas!

Cowboy cake

So this cake didn't work out the way I had it planned.  I had decided to  make my husband (my cowboy) a cowboy cake.  I looked online at many different cakes, I combined several ideas and had it all planned in my head.  I decided I would make it at my moms home so I could have help with my baby while I made the cake.  Well, when I got there I found out I had forgot my cake pans and my frosting tips.  I was so frustrated.  So I decided I would just have to make it work but it would end up NOTHING like I had planned.

In order to have the bottom the layer bigger than the middle pan we decided to use the the electric fry pan for the bottom layer.  I wanted a bigger square bottom.  I looked online and I read that you can bake in the pan.  IT DIDN'T WORK!!!  It took a little over two hours to cook and the bottom was burnt.  I still used this layer, I just covered it in wax paper before frosting it.  VERY FRUSTRATING!!

I made the cowboy hat out of rice crispy treats.  I was worried it would be to heavy so I cored out the middle of the hat to take off some of the weight.

The middle layer I wanted to look like a bandanna.  It didn't turn out quite what I wanted because I used one of my moms tips that was a lot larger than I wanted.

All in all it turned out okay.  I think if I had been at home with all of my equipment it would have been closer to the image in my head.

But the middle layer that we DID eat was yummy!

Happy birthday to my husband and my best friend!  I love you so very much!!!

Quiet Book

The bracelet clips on and off the page so she can play with it.

Sorry this is a long post.  I have a lot of pages.

I planned on this project taking a while but because I made 27 pages it took a lot longer than I anticipated.  I wanted a large variety.  Easy, for my daughter now and a little more difficult for later, so I made a lot more pages than planned.  I put them into two books.  A easy book and harder book.  I looked on line for different ideas and looked at tons of quiet books.  I copied the pages I liked into a word document for a reference.

One blog recommended to figure out all the items you need and then go shopping so you don't go to the store a ton of different times.  I tried to do that.  But when I went to buy the felt I wasn't sure just how much of what I would need.  I bought about 5 of every color and about 30 white sheets.  I figured I could take back what I didn't use but didn't want to go back a ton of different times.  I'm so glad I did it that way.  I bought some cute fun buttons for detail but they are a lot more expensive so I kept it limited.

On thing I did that really helped was I put eyelets on the side where the rings would go to help reinforce the pages.

Some of my items like the horse, football and cover are minki fabric that I had leftover from other projects.  My daughter loves texture and I thought this would be a fun extra.

There are a few extra pages I made up that I didn't see anywhere else.  The wheels on the bus page with the Sesame finger puppets is extra because my daughter LOVES Sesame street right now.  Also I made a cookie monster that you put cookies in and out of his mouth because she loves cookie monster.

I wanted to do something creative for the shape page.  So I made a robot and I got the idea for his image from Word World.  I then made the buttons on his body the shapes and I made a pocket that opens for the shapes to go in and out of.

I also used the fabric you can put in your printer for the words and my Nemo page.  I couldn't have made the fish look that cute and it made one page much more simple!

I am so excited to give this to my daughter for Christmas!  She saw a few of the pages as I made them and would cry until I let her see them.  I think it'll be a hit!!  :0)

ABC Quiet Book

This is the quiet book I made using Adobe Photoshop Elements.  I do all of my scrap booking digital and I LOVE it!  I took pictures of  the family and then pictures I found online to create the ABC book for my daughter for Christmas.  I have 2 pictures for each letter.  I added a background page, the letter and a fun picture to match the letter.  Then I took them all to Costco and printed them out.  I found a cute brag book at Hobby Lobby.  In all it cost me $5.00 for the pictures and $3.00 for the book.  A darling gift for $8.00 that I think she'll love.
I added personal touches to make it just for her.  I have pictures with her and her Aunts, Uncles, Daddy, Grandparents, and Mommy.  I have pictures of grandpa's lamb, our dog and our horse.  I hope it helps grab her attention on Sunday!  :0)

Snowboarding Cake

This cake was done VERY QUICKLY!  I only had a limited amount of time to put it together so it wasn't near what I wanted to do.  But for a short amount of time, it turned our rather well.

My little brother is a snowboarder.  So for his birthday I wanted to make a cake just for him.
When I baked the cake, I put them on a slant in the oven so I wouldn't have to carve the cake. This helped make the perfect slope!
Then I added the frosting.  I used a star tip for the sides of the cake.  I cut rice crispy treats to make the ski lift and frosted it.
Easy, simple and quick.
But the best part of the cake was eating it! :0)
